Main city of Northern Norway is Tromsø which lies well behind the Arctic Circle on the Norwegian coastline. You can get here by plane, by fast boat (called Hurtigruten) or by bus/car. There is no railway, sorry :)
In 19th century there was a plan to build a railway to Tromsø, but the realisation was abandoned after building a railway station, which now is transformed to a restaurant.

I visited Tromsø in late May (that means really early Spring in that region), looking closely on the picture you can see snow still covering the mountains surrounding this small but charming city.
Tromsø seen from the East
From late May to late July you can enjoy here (I did!) Polar Nights and in winter season Aurora Borealis - the Northern Lights. Tromsø is a small, but busy city, most part of the year crowded with students from various corners of the world. Here you can listen to the midnight concerts in the Arctic Cathedral while watching the virtually never-ending sunset.Tromsø is populated by 65 000 and hosts the world's most northern university (10 000 students), brewery and monastery (a Carmel convent). Tromsø was selected by the Norwegian National Olympic Committee asNorway's candidate for the 2018 Winter Olympics, but the candidature was lately dropped due to huge costs.
