Ålesund - the Phoenix City

Another interesting city during our travel to Norway is Ålesund. It is a relatively young city, established in 19th century, but seriously experienced shortly after, when it was totally destroyed during a night in a great fire. Unbelievably only one person was killed then.
Ålesund surroundings seen from the city
The city was completely rebuild in one sytle - Art Nouveau. Here are some examples:

In addition to its unique architecture, Ålesund can offer you the Centre of Art Nouveau Architecture (museum Jugendstilsenteret), one of the largest seawater aquariums in northern Europe Atlanterhavsparken and scenic views of steep mountains meeting the North Sea. By the way, at Atlanterhavsparken you can see this sign

saying that "the seal can bite". Yeah, there lives a semi-wild seal which can be spotted from time to time. Haven't met her (him?) when I was there, but so the legends say, we have to trust them :)
Ålesund can be also a starting point to a trip to magnificent Geiranger fjord (a few words about it later)
